The Iowa Driftless Classic, held September 14, 2024, drew anglers of all ages and skill levels into Decorah for a day of friendly competition while raising funds for conservation efforts.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better day of fishing,” said Ross Evelsizer, Event Co-Director for Northeast Iowa RC&D. “There was a great number and size of trout caught, but the real success was seeing the community come together to celebrate our love of the outdoors and support conservation efforts. Overall, it was a great representation of the future of the sport.”
Jared Nielsen, Event Co-Director for Northeast Iowa RC&D, added “We’re grateful for everyone who came out to participate, volunteer, and sponsor this event. Iowa Tourism, Thorne Bro’s/the Fly Angler, Rootz LLC, Ewing Feather Birds, Decorah Bank & Trust Co., Pulpit Rock Brewing Co., Toppling Goliath Brewing Co., Rubaiyat, and NST Outdoors. Truly, we couldn’t have done it without you!”
The tournament was part of Northeast Iowa RC&D’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable fishing practices and engage the local community in preserving the region’s natural resources. Proceeds from the event will go toward supporting local environmental initiatives, including habitat restoration projects, educational programs for young anglers, and increased angler access through Iowa Driftless Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
